To get your widescreen monitor to display with the proper aspect ratio, the most vivid colors and the sharpest possible picture, it's important to set it to its optimal display resolution. In most cases, this is simply a matter of adjusting the pixel count to the maximum dimensions in the display settings. However, if you find that video playback is choppy, the image is distorted or simply that your maximum resolution setting doesn't go as high as you know it can, visit the manufacturer's website first to download a video driver update.
On a PC
1.Type 'Device Manager' from the Start screen, then tap or click 'Settings' under the search bar. Tap or click 'Device Manager' in the search results.
2.Expand the 'Display Adapters' tier and make note of the manufacturer information for your video driver.
3.Type 'MANUFACTURER video driver update' into your favorite search engine, replacing 'MANUFACTURER' with the appropriate brand name.
4.Visit the manufacturer's driver update page and locate the appropriate driver update for your operating system and the video card's make and model.
5.Download the software driver update and install it by double-clicking and following the installation wizard's prompts.
6.Navigate to the Start screen and swipe your finger in from the right edge or point to the upper-right corner of the Start screen with your mouse. Click 'Search.'
7.Enter 'Display' in the search box, then tap or click 'Settings' underneath. Tap or click 'Display' in the search results.
8.Click 'Adjust Resolution' in the left pane. In the Screen Resolution window, tap or click the 'Resolution' drop-down and select '1280x1024.' Click 'OK' to save.
On a Mac
1.Click the Apple icon at the top left of your screen and select 'About This Mac.'
2.Click 'More Info' in the window that pops up and locate your video card manufacturer, make and model in the informational window that appears.
6.Launch 'Settings' from your Dock or Applications folder and select 'Displays.'
Tips
- Do not simply rely on your operating system's automatic updating feature as it doesn't always catch new video driver needs.
- If you are not experiencing choppy videos or distorted pictures, your software driver might be up-to-date. Simply go directly to the monitor's display settings and bypass searching for and installing video card driver updates.
- Monitors can support various resolution specifications, even if they are lower than their native -- or optimal -- resolutions, but text and graphics may not appear sharp, the display might be small or you might notice black bars framing the sides.

LG is set to show off two new Thunderbolt 3 monitors at this January's Consumer Electronics Show, including the company's first 21:9 '5K UltraWide' display.Thursday, December 21, 2017, 06:25 am PT (09:25 am ET)
The 34WK95U is a 34-inch model with 5,120-by-2,160 resolution, high dynamic range, and LG's 'Nano IPS' technology, which is said to boost the 'intensity and purity' of colors. Thunderbolt 3 lets the monitor handle 5K images at 60 hertz, and connect laptops like the MacBook Pro without an additional power source.
The 32UK950 will offer a similar featureset, but in a more conventional aspect ratio and with a slightly smaller 32-inch screen. The display is said to hit 98 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut, with peak brightness of 600 nits, and support a second 4K monitor through daisy-chaining.
LG will also present a Quad HD (2,560-by-1,440) gaming monitor, the 34GK950G, but there are no images of the device and its only other announced features include Nano IPS and Nvidia's G-Sync technology.
Pricing and release dates all three monitors will presumably be announced at CES.
There are relatively few Thunderbolt 3 monitors on the market. LG's flagship product in this area is the UltraFine 5K.
